Tip

Remember that when multiplying more than two factors—if the number of
negative factors is even, then the product is positive; if the
number of negative factors is odd, then the product is negative.

Checking a Solution

Remember that you can always check your answer for a division problem
by multiplying the quotient by the divisor and checking that the result
is equal to the original dividend. For instance, in the Concept
Summary, the quotient of $-40$ and $-8$ is calculated to be $5$. Check
this by multiplying $5$ by $-8$.

    $5\bullet(-8)=-(5\bullet
8)=-40$
